Community Service Center
OF GREATER CLEVELAND
This space has been donated to the Center by the Chronicle. The following does not necessarily reflect the views of the Chronicle staff or management. by Robert Laycock
Teamsters Union. The Center has been nominated as a potential recipient of charity donations from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, AFLCIO. The nomination was made on the Center's behalf by the father of one of the youths participating in PRYSM. This is a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for the Center and advance awareness and acceptance of our community at the same time.
We need to generate at least one hundred postcards supporting the Teamster donations. You don't have to be a Teamster member to send in a card, nor do you have to sign your name. Your initials will do. Write to:
Joe Figueroa
P.O. Box 02286 Cleveland, Ohio 44102
Come on! Send it in!
Lavender Elephant Sale. Don't forget that the Center will hold a Lavender Elephant Sale during Pride '89 on Sunday, June 18. We still need donations of good saleable items. You can bring your goodies in anytime, and we'll even accept them up to the day of the event. It's a good way to clean house and help the Center at the same time.
Youth Skit at Pride '89. Members of PRYSM (Presence and Respect for Youth in Sexual Minority) will perform a skit on-stage at Pride '89 June 18 in front of the Center. It should be fun. Join us!
Jimmy Amato. Jimmy Amato has received the Director's AIDS Service Award from the Ohio Department of Health for his service to the Living Room, a project which Jimmy first conceived. The award was given to him posthumously. Jimmy died January 7, but his contributions to the community live on.
Living Room Wins Grant. The Center has received a $9400 grant for the Living Room from the Community AIDS Partnership Project. This national grant will enable the Center to hire a consultant to help develop a long range funding strategy for the Living Room.
hold House Parties to benefit the Center. The Center is seeking to increase its donor base while also having fun at the same time. You get your friends together and we'll send a spirited and entertaining guest to liven your affair with a pitch for the Center and its services. Your friends will love it, and you'll feel good for the effort. Call the Center if you'd like to set one up.
Show Tune Sing-A-Long. We've got a piano, and our gatherings for show tune sing-a-longs will start soon. If you have any show scores for piano, we need them.
And, if you like to play the piano, we need you, too. If you can help, or if you want to join us when we sing, call the Center to ask the time.
Men In Touch. A new Men In Touch group will start soon. Call the Center for the starting date and to sign up.
Phone Home. Dr. Raymond Richetta has donated a new $500 phone system to the Center. This will be a tremendous improvement, sure to be noticed by many of you who've struggled to reach us with our present system. Thanks! ▼
